HTML Marked Down
Published on February 17, 2005 By iefan In Websites
So I accepted a bit of an assignment doing some book reviews. Maybe I'll link to them when I finish some up. To the point - the format of the review is Textile. Textile is a way to simplify HTML mark up. It's really easy to tell you the truth. I spent some time working with it and then added TextilePHP to my website in about half an hour. Now all the posts generated on my website will run through Textile. The best part is that it will easily coexist with HTML. There is a ruby implementation known as RedCloth and a python as PyTexitle as well. So if you run any sort of dynamic website, there's some method you could put this in. Mombo CMS has a plug in for it (the CMS I write reviews for) and Movable Type (MT) has a similar plug in (with some added link bonuses).

When I first looked at it, I expected something like nroff, however this is much simpler and easier to use. The Textile sit has a 'playground' you try it out in. Have some fun.
